Description:
Opened in March 2002, the Ketchikan Regional Youth Facility (KRYF) is a detention facility. The facility is located within the city of Ketchikan and serves the communities of Ketchikan, Saxman, Prince of Wales Island, Wrangell, Petersburg, Kake, Hyder, and Metlakatla. KRYF receives intakes (youth who have been arrested for criminal charges or probation violations) from the Ketchikan District Juvenile Probation Office. All youth in the facility have an appearance before a Judge within 48 hours of their admission. Continued detention requires a valid Court Order and Court appearances then occur at least every 30 days. The total design capacity of the facility is eight beds with an additional two observation rooms for special needs residents Detention centers are for youth who are detained under specific circumstances set by Alaska statute. They hold youth that are awaiting court dates or placement in a residential facility
